Menopause, Telehealth, and Me: My Unfiltered Experience with Midi

At 52 and navigating perimenopause, I came to Midi Health after years of managing symptoms through trial and error. Like many women, I started with lifestyle changes, vitamins and supplements, and prescription medications – including an SSRI for anxiety and gabapentin for sleep and night sweats. While these approaches helped in pieces, they didn’t fully address the entirety of what I was experiencing. A growing lack of motivation, increasing self-isolation, general malaise, and incremental weight gain over the past few years that had quietly begun to shape my daily life. By fall of 2025, it was clear I needed more comprehensive, menopause-specific care.

In October 2025, I scheduled a virtual appointment with Midi Health, and the experience immediately felt different. The 30-minute consult with a nurse practitioner was unhurried, patient, and surprisingly validating. She addressed the outdated information and societal fears about hormone therapy that had previously held me back, while listening carefully to my questions and making space for my emotions. I sobbed through much of that first appointment, and instead of feeling rushed or minimized, I felt supported. Having a dedicated clinical visit focused solely on my perimenopausal symptoms made a meaningful difference.

Following that visit, I was prescribed an estradiol 0.05 mg transdermal patch (applied twice weekly) along with 100 mg of progesterone. The speed and efficiency were notable: within 90 minutes of my virtual appointment, I had picked up my prescription, and within two hours I had applied my first patch. Within 48 hours, I noticed a real shift in my mood and energy. I felt better – more motivated, more engaged, and more like myself. Regular, everyday tasks that had felt overwhelming suddenly felt manageable again, and I began reconnecting with friends and daily life.

By December, hormone therapy continued to work well, and I wanted to address weight gain that had become resistant to diet and exercise. During my monthly virtual check-in, my nurse practitioner thoroughly reviewed GLP-1 options with me. Together, we decided that Zepbound was the best fit. While the clinical guidance was thoughtful and clear, the administrative process that followed was frustrating. Due to delays in insurance prior authorization, I paid out of pocket for the first month…it was very expensive, but the use of my health flexible spending account made it more bearable. As of February 1, I am still awaiting a response from my insurer, and my second-month prescription remains pending – creating an unnecessary and unwanted disruption in treatment. Unfortunately, communication through the patient portal around authorization status has been slow and inconsistent.

That said, the platform itself has been easy and convenient to use. Scheduling appointments, navigating the portal, and attending virtual visits have all been seamless. I did not request a specific clinician and instead opted for a match based on availability, which has worked well. I feel comfortable with and supported by my nurse practitioner, and the dynamic has been consistently positive.

For women of color who may be hesitant about virtual menopause care or worry they won’t be taken seriously online, my experience with Midi Health has been affirming. I have felt heard, respected, and supported throughout my care. If the insurance and GLP-1 workflow issues were resolved, this would easily be a five-star experience due to the convenience, ease of use, and strong clinician relationship.
